Taco Loco Sunset Drive Location Closes
Taco Loco's Sunset Drive location in St. Thomas has closed after being open for just over a year and a half. According to owner Ivan Monrreal, the space was too large for a taco-focused concept, prompting the decision to close and try something new. The last day of operation for the Sunset Drive location was on Sunday.
Plans for a New Rodizio-Style Restaurant
Monrreal is planning to transform the former Taco Loco location into a rodizio-style restaurant called Assador. Renovations are expected to begin soon, with a potential opening in the summer. The project will be launched in partnership with a new business partner from Brazil.
Taco Loco Brand Continues at Original Location
While the Sunset Drive location is now closed, the Taco Loco brand will continue to operate at its original site at 390 Springbank Dr. This move reflects a broader shift in strategy, away from operating multiple taco restaurants and toward launching distinct dining concepts.
Launch of La Chula, a Mexican Cantina-Inspired Bar
Monrreal is also planning to open a Mexican cantina-inspired bar called La Chula on Wellington Road, slated to open in January. The new venue will feature a large selection of beers, a wide variety of cocktails, and Mexican food with a menu completely different from Taco Loco, offering a 100% Mexican atmosphere.

Monrreal expressed gratitude for the reception Taco Loco has received from residents in London, St. Thomas, and surrounding communities. He added that the brand still has “a bright future” and that they are excited about the new project and are looking forward to competing with some of the big steakhouse restaurants in the area.
