Global Forest Resource Assessment [3:27]
Recent data places India ninth globally in forest area, according to the Global Forest Resource Assessment report released by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The FAO, with headquarters in Rome, Italy, celebrated its 8th anniversary on October 16th. While India ranks ninth in total forest area, it ranks third in terms of forest area increase. The report was released in Bali, Indonesia, under the Ministry of Environment, headed by Bhupendra Yadav. A campaign called "A tree in the name of mother" is run. Maximum forest cover in India is found in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Odisha, with the highest percentage increase in Mizoram.
Joint Military Exercise with Japan [8:32]
INS Sayadri, an Indian Naval ship from the Shivalik class commissioned in Mumbai in 2012, participated in the Gymex exercise with Japan. This exercise occurred between October 16th and 17th and aimed to enhance the security of the Indo-Pacific area. The first edition of Gymex was conducted in 2013. INS Sahyadri, constructed at Mazgaon Dockyard Limited, had recently participated in an exercise with South Korea in the South China Sea before proceeding to Japan. Other exercises between India and Japan include Shanyumaitri, Dharma Guardian, Malabar, and Passex.
New Presidents of Bolivia and Madagascar [13:29]
Rico Pais has been elected as the new President of Bolivia, a landlocked country in South America with its capital in Sucrez, located in the Andes Mountains. Bolivia is also home to Lake Chikakha, known as Honeymoon Lake. The left-wing government has been leading since 2006. Colonel Michael Randry Nina has been appointed as the new president of Madagascar, the largest island in the Indian Ocean, located inside Africa.
Ceasefire Between Afghanistan and Pakistan [18:27]
Qatar and Turkey mediated a ceasefire between Afghanistan and Pakistan following clashes that began on October 11th. The Durant Line, approximately 2600 km long, forms the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan. India has developed several projects inside Afghanistan, including the Salma Dam, Kabul Dam, the Afghan Parliament (Shora), and the Zaranj Delaram route. In 2021, the Taliban took over Afghanistan, leading to increased clashes with Pakistan.
UDAN Scheme [23:04]
The UDAN scheme, launched in 2016 under the National Civil Aviation Policy, has completed nine years. It aims to provide regional connectivity to under-served airports. Approximately 1.56 crore people have benefited from this scheme. By 2027, NITI Aayog plans to provide interconnectivity to 120 aspirational districts, with a goal to create a developed India by 2047. The scheme aims to have 300 functional airports in India. The Airport Authority of India, established in 1995 and headquartered in Delhi, regulates this scheme. Vipin Kumar is the present chairperson. Civil Aviation Day is celebrated on December 7th.
Azad Hind Day [27:27]
Azad Hind Day is celebrated on October 21st, commemorating the formation of the Azad Hind Fauj in 1942 by Mohan Singh ji, later joined by Subhash Chandra Bose ji in 1943. The army was formed with the support of Japan, with its main center in Singapore. During World War II, the army aimed to expel the British from India but was betrayed by Japan. The Battle of Imphal was a significant battle fought with the British. In Andaman Nicobar, Subhash Chandra Bose ji hoisted the flag of India in 1943. Ross Island was renamed Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island, Neil Island as Shaheed Dweep (Martyr Island), and Havelock Island as Swaraj Island. Subhash Chandra Bose headed the Indian National Congress twice, in 1938 and 1939, and formed the Forward Block in 1939. Parakram Diwas is celebrated on January 23rd.
World Iodine Deficiency Day and Gujarat's New Year [32:57]
World Iodine Deficiency Day is observed on October 21st to raise awareness about diseases caused by iodine deficiency. The Bestu year, Gujarat's New Year, is celebrated, starting the day after Diwali. The celebrations are led by Amit Shah ji, Bhupendra Patel ji (CM of Gujarat), and Acharya Devvrat ji (Governor of Gujarat and Maharashtra).
