The toys are excited by the sound of children playing outside, seeing it as an opportunity to be played with again. Tom, however, is not as enthusiastic. He acknowledges that the new place is nice, but insists that they need to return home. Peapack suggests they could have a new life there, making kids happy again, but Tom remains firm in his decision to leave.
Tom's Decision and the Rift [0:37]
Tom explains that he has a kid, Gilbert, and their job is to be there for him, whether he wants them at college or in the attic. He announces his intention to go home, inviting anyone who wants to join him. Drummer, however, states that their mission with Gilbert is complete and that staying together is what's important now. Tom reminds them that they wouldn't even be together if it weren't for Gilbert, and questions how they can turn their backs on him now. Peapack tells Tom to wake up and accept that Gilbert is all grown up.

Tom expresses his disbelief at how selfish the others are being. Peapack is hurt by Tom's words, and Drummer comforts her while Thanos glares at Tom. Tom asks if this is the end of their group after everything they've been through. Drummer extends his hand to Tom, but Tom ignores him. Tom starts to leave, and Gladstone follows him. Tom initially insists that Gladstone stay with the others, not wanting her to be left alone in the attic, but eventually leaves her with Drummer and Peapack.

As Alicia's mum calls for her, Tom realises he needs to leave. Drummer and the others retreat as Alicia's mum enters the house. Tom closes the door behind him, while Drummer and Peapack watch sadly.
